Abstract
Background: Wound healing has been defined as a complex process result in restoration of anatomical structure and function of particular part of body. In Ayurveda, many authentic herbal drugs have been described for wound healing. After surgery, wound healing may take a few weeks to months. Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Kalanusriadi Taila in enhancing post-operative wound healing following incision and drainage of a boil abscess by assessing its effects on pain, pus discharge, skin induration, burning sensation, wound size, wound margins, and the overall healing process. Case details: A 35 years old female presented with chief complaints of swelling present at right arm since from 4-5 days, associated with severe pain, continue pus discharge and skin induration, as well as minimally responsive to antibiotics. Ultra sonography evaluation revealed a boil abscess. So based on the diagnosis, patient was selected for incision and drainage under local anaesthesia. The post operative wound was treated with Kalanusriadi Taila applied over the post operative wound area, without any oral medications, antibiotics, NSAIDs or Pathya-Apthya(do’s and don’ts diet and activities). Results: The boil started healing within 7-10 days with total duration of followup being 21 days. The signs and symptoms of post operative wound were noted before and during the treatment. The clinical symptoms like pus discharge, severe pain (VAS score 8-10), skin induration, burning, colour of margin and surrounding skin, size and shape of wound showed effective result after the treatment. Conclusion: The findings suggest that topical application of Kalanusriadi Taila effectively promoted post-operative wound healing following incision and drainage of a boil abscess. The formulation may serve as a safe and effective topical therapeutic option in post-operative wound management. However, further well-designed randomised controlled clinical trials with larger sample sizes are warranted to validate these findings and establish its clinical efficacy.
